Meera Curam

Residency Director

Meera Curam, trained as a Visual Artist and Textile Designer, seamlessly blends tradition and innovation through a multi-disciplinary approach. As a creative practitioner, she explores socio-cultural practices, memory, and lost knowledge systems, revealing a deep understanding of the human experience. Her creative expression interprets memory using vibrant colours, intricate patterns from Chintz, and the living tradition of Rangoli.

Having graduated from Karnataka Chitra Kala Parishath Bangalore in Sculpture and Painting, Meera further honed her skills in Textile Design at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. Her professional journey includes private commissions for hand painting, the revival of historical textiles, and curating textile collections for fashion and interiors. Beyond her artistic pursuits, Meera is deeply committed to art and design education. She has held roles such as Academic Dean at Srishti Manipal Institute and Course Director for BA (Hons) Textile Design at Birmingham City University in the UK. Her contribution extends to being a Specialist Curriculum designer for Ekya and Ekya Nava Schools in Bangalore.

Meera fosters creative and critical thinking in the classroom, integrating a multi-disciplinary approach into pedagogy. As a mentor, she has led projects like "Tales from Malabar" a mobile museum sharing narratives from the Mapilla Muslim community, and mentored the BP Art Exchange project, and "Frame the Unseen," and exhibited at prestigious venues like Kochi-Muziris Biennale and the Clore Learning Centre at Tate Gallery.

Meera was a recipient of a grant from the South-Central Zone Cultural Centre, Nagpur, to document the significance of yellow and the artisanal practices of Block printing and Hand--painting techniques of Kalamkari in South India, and "Song of Kalamkari" project into a coffee-table book.
