Geetanjali Bayan
I am Geetanjali Bayan from Guwahati, Assam. I have completed my bachelor's degree from the Government College of Art and Craft in Guwahati, Assam. Currently, I have completed my master's degree from Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai.
In my art practice, I experiment with threads and rope, primarily focusing on knitting and stitching techniques. The materials for my artwork are predominantly influenced by Assamese culture. My inspiration stems from my mother, whose knitting and stitching I observed since childhood. This realization deepens the connection between me, my mother, and our culture, symbolized by the threads we weave together.
Through my work I aspire to inspire everyone to have a positive outlook on life and power through the negative times and hardships in life. I try to take a positive approach towards life amidst all negative emotions that I face in everyday life and that is what I try to showcase through my work.
In essence, my knitting and stitching artwork serve as a visual narrative of my journey of life – a testament to the complexities of human experience and the resilience of the human spirit. Through the interplay of colors and textures, I want people to interact with my work, explore its levels, and find their own reflections in the narrative threads through the interplay of colours and textures.
